Collections in Alma
Cultura - The Abo Akademi University Archive of folk life and traditions consists of the ethnological and folkloristic collections of the university. As a separate part the archive also contains the Textile archive of swedish-speaking Finland.
The archive collections
Cultura - The Abo Akademi university Archive of folk life and traditions was founded in 2011 when the older folkloristic and ethnological collections of Abo Akademi University joined into one archive. The collections are still separate but jointly searchable. The Textile archive of swedish-speaking Finland also belongs to Cultura.
The archive contains some 85000 photographs of which about half can be found in Alma, although only roughly 1000 of them are digitized. The archive also contains some 20000 written records & answers to questionnaires, about 5000 interviews along with maps and drawings made during fieldwork. You can find metadata of these in Alma, but to see the originals you should contact the personnel.
The textile archive contains about 18000 textile samples of which about 5000 can be found in Alma.
As not all the material is available in Alma, you should contact the staff if you have trouble finding what you are interested in.
